It’s time for Shawn and I to get our nerd on at this year’s Gen Con. For the un-initiated Gen Con is one of the largest annual gaming conventions in North America. Some 40,000 plus nerds and geeks like us play role-playing games, miniature wargames, and pretty much submerse ourselves in all things dork. This year however, we’re also supporting the release of ‘Voyage of the Stag Party’ our 32 page Dungeons and Dragons style adventure module and vinyl EP.
The limited release(only 300 made) is out now on 3 Floyd’s record label, Floyd Global Industries, and the adventure itself is chocked full of cheeky references to both Sybris and the brewery. I’m for one very proud of this mashing together of some of my favorite things into one; Music, Beer, Role Playing Games. Honestly, I can’t wait to wander over to booth number 2137 in the convention hall where the fine folks of Games Plus will be peddling our adventure. If the 13 year old me only knew.

We’re playing with one of my favorite groups from the last couple of years coming up. Hope to see you all there.

Our new vinyl EP– c0-released in a limited pressing of 300 by Floyd Global Industries–is also a classic era D&D-style adventure module. Titled “Voyage of the Stag Party”, the adventure/EP release commemorates the 6th year of members of Sybris and brewers from Three Floyds gaming together. The release party on Friday, April 5th at Bottom Lounge’s Volcano Room in Chicago will feature a Three Floyds tap takeover, performances by Sybris, Rabid Rabbit, and Killer Moon–as well as a chance for guests to sit down for some real dice rolling gameplay.
For the past 6 years, members of Sybris and brewers from Three Floyds have gotten together almost every Friday night (barring touring or work duties) to gather in a smoky garage or around a customized game table to play the classic role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. When Sybris started writing a D&D inspired song, “Critically in Love,” the idea to release the song as part of an adventure was born.
To commemorate this hobby-turned-lifestyle, the adventuring party–known as The Endless Wastes–are releasing a special edition limited EP. The seven inch vinyl record contains three Sybris songs: two recorded by Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Pelican, Yakuza), and one by Mike Lust (Bible of the Devil, Urge Overkill, Tight Phantomz). The EP jacket is actually a “retro-clone” adventure module: “The Voyage of The Stag Party,” complete with maps and pre-rolled characters. The adventure, written by Chad Troutman with members Phil Naumann and Shawn Podgurski of Sybris, contains several tongue-in-cheek references to both Sybris and Three Floyds and is based on the songs “Stag Party” and “Boots of Gold.” The third song, “Critically in Love” is a love song told entirely in D&D jargon.

Watch the Oscars? C’mon there’s like 30 movies nominated for best picture these days. This shows going to be a burner from start to finish. The Ragtones are one of our favorite local bands and of course Snowden’s music speaks for itself. Doors are 8ish, you’ll definitely be kicking yourself if you don’t get there by 9pm to see The Ragtones. We’ll hit the stage at 10pm.

and yet we think we know this much. Sybris will do our thang Thursday January 17th at Schubas in Chicago as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows festival along with great bands Merchandise, Dusted, and Sundress.
We play at 9pm sharp, let it be noted.
We’re knee deep in the rubble and the soot of recording our next record on the banks of Lake Erie. Lots of updates, pics, sounds and all such things are posting as we go on our Facebook. www.facebook.com/sybris
We’re going to expose the new Gold on Hold songs to the tempering fire one more time. The final pre-recording live run through will be at the Burlington on Saturday, June 30th here in the Chi. You know how you can just tell somethings going to be fun as hell weeks ahead of time? That’s how we feel about this. Bully in the Hallway starts it off and they put on a great, high energy show. They’ll be followed by a very special, very secret surprise buzz band that I wish I could mention but just can’t. And then we’ll close out the night. From all I’ve been hearing the Burlington’s new stage and room has excellent sound and they’ve already been making great drinkies for years. So get there early, show starts at 9pm, stay there late, we will be. It’s 21 and over(age faster kids).
c u then,
